Moventas is to spend €17m ramping up manufacturing capacity of its Exceed gear series in Finland to more than 5GW.
The war chest will expand component manufacturing, serial production and new 6MW testing facilities in Jyväskylä, in the Finnish Lakeland region.
The company said the move was underpinned by demand for the gearboxes that are designed to lower life-cycle costs of wind power.
Moventas added that it had delivered 1GW of Exceed gears to three customers in five continents over the past year.
Moventas chief executive Arto Lahtela said: “By investing further in Finland, we can shorten our lead-times, improve our efficiency and ensure continued high quality standards.”
The investment will be done in co-operation with municipally-owned real estate company Jykes Kiinteistöt Oy, Moventas added.
Construction for the expansion will be finalised by the end of 2017, and the facilities will come online in the first quarter of 2018.
