Nordic energy ministers have pledged to work more closely at both the regional and wider European level.
The ministers – from Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden – adopted a new programme on 23 November for Nordic cooperation on energy policy.
The programme is partly based on proposals in a report commissioned by the Nordic Council of Ministers and written by former Nokia chief executive Jorma Ollila.
The report focuses on the region continuing to lead on the green economic transition and making energy research a top priority.
The ministers agreed that the EU plan for an energy union provided even greater opportunities for collaboration.
Norway Minister of Petroleum and Energy and chair of the Nordic ministerial co-operation on energy 2017 Terje Søviknes said: “Speaking with one voice adds weight to the Nordic message, especially in an era when energy policy is becoming more and more European and global. The Nordic countries are stronger when they share points of view on individual issues.”
