Medium wind outfit Norvento has launched an upgraded 100kW turbine featuring a more compact generator and a new blade design.
The Spanish manufacturer will unveil the re-engineered nED100 turbine at All Energy 2016 in Glasgow today.
Norvento said the redesigned turbine will boost efficiency, performance and returns for medium wind developers in the post-subsidy UK market.
The turbine’s newly designed nacelle will feature a lighter direct drive generator placed immediately behind the rotor to shorten the shaft in a bid to improve performance.
In addition, its newly designed 12 metre blades have been optimised for class 3 low wind sites and boost efficiency by 3%, Norvento added.
The company’s director of UK business development Ivo Arnús said the the model is the result of extensive research in the UK market.
“Having reviewed and enhanced our manufacturing process, we’re now able to offer a machine that delivers the same performance and efficiency of the existing model at a lower cost,” he said.
He added: “Ultimately this will support the ambitions of energy intensive users and landowners alike by reducing the overall cost of on-site wind energy generation and thereby maximising the considerable financial benefits it continues to create in the UK market.”
The turbine will be available to order from 4 May with first deliveries expected to arrive by the end of the year.
