P2X Solutions commissions green hydrogen plant

P2X Solutions has begun commercial operations at a “flagship” green hydrogen plant in Finland.

The 20MW Harjavalta facility (pictured) uses an electrolyser from Sunfire and is Finland’s first industrial site for the commercial production of green hydrogen.

P2X Solutions’ chief executive Herkko Plit said: “With commercial operation starting at the Harjavalta plant, Finland’s green hydrogen economy is taking a leap from plans into reality.

“I am extremely proud of our team, which has reached this milestone together. Finland is in a great position to develop into a superpower in clean hydrogen and its derivative electric fuels, and we hope that many projects will follow suit.”

Sunfire chief executive Nils Aldag said: “The electrolysis plant in Harjavalta is a flagship project in Europe.

“With the commercial operation of Sunfire’s electrolyser now underway, P2X Solutions has achieved a major milestone in accelerating Finland’s green hydrogen market.

“We are proud to be part of this pioneering project and congratulate the entire team on this outstanding achievement in Finland’s energy history.”

In addition to P2X Solutions, the Finnish project developer Ren-Gas has recently selected Sunfire’s technology for its 50MW plant in Tampere.

Finland is emerging as a leading location for the production of green hydrogen, aiming to produce at least 10% of the EU’s hydrogen in 2030.

A total of €2.3bn of state support was announced recently for renewables, decarbonisation of industry and equipment supply chains.

Sunfire is a portfolio company of clean hydrogen fund investor HydrogenOne Capital Growth plc.
