The Global Wind Energy Council has appointed former SPR and Corio boss Jonathan Cole (pictured) as a global ambassador to support its advocacy for accelerating wind energy deployment worldwide.
GWEC said Cole previously served a two-year term as chairman during a period of historic industry growth.
It added that he helped drive the organisation’s work on supply chain resilience and streamlining regulatory frameworks in emerging and mature markets.
As an ambassador, Cole will act as a high-level representative for the wind sector at major climate and energy forums.
He brings more than 20 years of leadership experience, having led Iberdrola’s global offshore wind business before becoming founding chief executive of Corio Generation.
GWEC said his track record includes overseeing a 60GW project pipeline across the Americas, Asia-Pacific and Europe.
Other ambassadors include former chair and Vestas senior vice president Morten Dyrholm and turbine pioneer Henrik Stiesdal.
“The Global Wind Energy Council is delighted to welcome Jonathan Cole back to the team as a Global Ambassador,” said GWEC chief executive Ben Backwell.
“As Chair, Jonathan supported GWEC’s expansion to new markets, particularly in the Asia-Pacific region. As the world prepares to accelerate the deployment of wind energy in many of those markets, the GWEC team looks forward to being able to call on Jonathan’s expertise, guidance, and experience of turning ambitious plans into realised projects.”
“I am very proud to continue my relationship with the GWEC team and do all I can in my role as Global Ambassador to help the wind industry continue to thrive,” said Cole.
“Wind energy is growing from strength to strength, providing record volumes of homegrown, reliable, resilient energy, whilst creating jobs and opportunity.
“There is still plenty of work to do and I look forward to helping GWEC with its important mission of making the positive case for wind energy throughout the world.”
