Amsterdam IJmuiden Offshore Ports (AYOP) has appointed Sylvia Boer as its new director from 1 February.
In this new position within the Association for Offshore Companies in the North Sea canal area, Boer will act as a link between members, government and stakeholders, according to AYOP, targeting regional opportunities in offshore wind as well as the wider offshore energy sector.
Boer joins AYOP from Damen Shipyards Group, where she has worked for the past eight years. Her most recent role at the company was head of communications.
While at Damen Boer worked for five years for industry association Scheepsbouw Nederland (Netherlands Maritime Technology) as export manager and policy officer.
In addition, Boer is chairman of the Women’s International Shipping and Trading Association, in the Netherlands.
AYOP chairman Ron Davio said: “Boer’s experiences contribute to the professionalization of AYOP. Our association now has 80 members and that number is growing rapidly.
“In addition, due to, among other things, the arrival of the Hollandse Kust wind farms, the offshore wind activities in the region are increasing rapidly. These two developments require intensive cooperation with governments, members and stakeholders. Sylvia Boer will be responsible for all related AYOP activities.”
Boer said: “I am really looking forward to this challenge; to further develop the Amsterdam IJmuiden offshore energy ecosystem together with members, government and stakeholders, so that we can attract new companies and cargo flows, tap new funds for innovation and attract new people to the sector.”
AYOP is an association of companies and governments in the North Sea Canal region that focus on offshore extraction of gas and oil and wind energy.
One of AYOP’s tasks is to promote the region nationally and internationally as an offshore wind regional hub.
