EDF Renewables Ireland has appointed James McDermott to the role of planning project manager, focusing on planning and delivery of renewable energy projects across Ireland.
McDermott (pictured) will work across all stages of development, including preliminary design and statutory consent projects.
Originally from Banbridge, County Down, McDermott recently returned to Ireland from London, where he worked for over eight years with a number of local planning authorities.
EDF Renewables Ireland development head Kevin Daly said: “We’re delighted to welcome James to the team, at a time when Ireland urgently needs well designed projects to meet its renewable energy targets, increase energy security and tackle climate change.
“His skills and experience will prove invaluable in helping us deliver successful wind and solar projects around the country.”
McDermott said: “I’m thrilled to have started with EDF Renewables Ireland at a time when increasing the supply of renewable energy has never been more important.
“People recognise the need for more wind and solar farms, and it’s crucial that those projects are designed in a way that maximises their potential to generate low-carbon energy and is consistent with best planning practice.”
EDF Renewables Ireland’s development team has a “wealth of experience in bringing complex development projects to fruition”, across onshore and offshore wind, solar PV and battery storage technology.
It has a development pipeline of 1GW of projects across Ireland.
