The Supervisory Board of German grid operator 50Hertz has met and confirmed Stefan Kapferer as CEO of the company for a further five years until the end of November 2028.
Kapferer (pictured, centre) has been in charge of the transmission system operator for the eastern German states, Berlin and Hamburg since December 2019.
Chris Peeters, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of 50Hertz, said: “Recent events have impressively shown that energy is of strategic importance for the prosperity of our society.
“The Elia Group is therefore working hard to ensure existing and future demand and to make the energy transition in Germany a success.
“Our position in the German market is crucial for the group.
“Stefan Kapferer has proven in recent years that he is a strong and hands-on leader who knows the current and future challenges inside out.
“I am convinced that he is the right man in the right place.
“The Elia Group will support him with all its strength in further expanding 50Hertz’s position as a key player in the German energy transition with a strong focus on investments in grid infrastructure and digitisation.”
Kapferer said: “I would like to thank the Supervisory Board for their trust.
“50Hertz has a powerful and capable team.
“Together with my highly committed colleagues, I look forward to continuing to make a contribution to the attractive and sustainable business location of northern and eastern Germany.
“50Hertz plays a key role in mastering the challenges of the energy transition.
“One thing is clear: we will continue to ensure a stable and reliable power supply as well as more speed in the expansion of the grids and the integration of renewable energies into the electricity supply.
“This requires a transmission system operator with agile and modern structures.
“Together with our shareholders, we have achieved a great deal in the modernisation of the company in recent years.
“I will now consistently continue along this path.”
