Macquarie’s Green Investment Group has appointed former Orsted chief executive Samuel Leupold to the newly-created position of chairman of wind energy.
The Green Investment Group said Leupold will work to shape its global wind strategy by supporting the continued expansion of the group’s global footprint.
Leupold has 20-years experience in the energy sector and was most recently head of offshore wind with Orsted before he stepped down in early 2018.
“We are delighted he is bringing that pioneering outlook and his deep understanding of the construction and industrial aspects of wind power to join Green Investment Group in our mission to accelerate the transition to a green global economy.” said the group’s global head Mark Dooley.
Leupold said he was “very excited” to be joining the team at the Macquarie-owned investment fund, which to date has invested in 14 projects totalling over 4.5GW of capacity.
“Wind is undoubtedly now a mainstream energy source, but the industry continues to evolve rapidly, presenting huge opportunities for those who can anticipate and shape the future of the ever-changing market,” he added.
