Orsted chief executive Henrik Poulsen is to chair an energy sector panel set up by the Danish government to come up with ideas for Denmark to meet its climate change goals.
The government is introducing several panels across a number of sectors, including shipping, retail and industry, to help propose measures for the country to meet the 70% carbon dioxide cut by 2030, Orsted said.
Poulsen said: “It will not be easy, and 70% is ambitious, but it’s the right ambition to aim for.
“It forces us to be creative and innovative, and it pushes us to cooperate across sectors. If policy-makers, industry, consumers, and the big energy generators work together, I believe the target is achievable.
“The electricity sector is in a favourable situation because we have made some technological breakthroughs that make green energy fully competitive with fossil-based power production.
“The costs of green energy have come down significantly in just four-five years.”
