Siemens Gamesa has appointed Shannon Sturgil (pictured) as the wind turbine maker’s North America onshore chief executive, effective from 1 June.
Sturgil succeeds Jose Antonio Miranda, who will return to Spain.
Sturgil, based in Orlando, Florida, has worked for 20 years within Siemens where his most recent role was head of power systems sales at Siemens Energy.
The role included sales responsibility for all generation, transmission and distribution, service and battery storage technologies.
He said: “North America is a key market and presents enormous opportunity for Siemens Gamesa – the industry experienced a total of 1800MW in US first quarter installations in 2020 alone along with vibrant growth in the repower segment.
“With the westward shift in Canada, we are seeing success and new opportunities in the Saskatchewan and Alberta provinces.
“I’m very excited to join Siemens Gamesa to now have the opportunity to continue to grow our presence in these important markets. I’ve worked with many customers in the US energy industry over the years and look forward to collaborating even closer in my new role to help them with their energy transformations toward a cleaner, more renewable future.”
Siemens Gamesa onshore chief of regions officer Enrique Pedrosa added: “Shannon has extensive experience in the energy industry with strong customer relationships.
“I am confident that he and the team will build on Jose Antonio’s work, with a strong focus on profitable growth in the region.”
