Christian Barthélémy will take on the role of head of Germany at Vattenfall on January 1.
He will replace Tuomo Hatakka, who also serves as head of Vattenfall’s heating business in Germany, the Netherlands, Sweden and Great Britain, following his retirement.
Barthélémy was appointed as the new senior vice president and head of human resources in the executive group management of the Vattenfall Group in October.
Barthélémy is also currently vice president special projects for the Swedish developer and was previously vice president real estate & facility management at Vattenfall.
The 49-year-old has experience in shared service operations and was previously at KPMG.
Vattenfall president and chief executive Anna Borg said: “Tuomo Hatakka has been a key driver in Vattenfall’s development for many years and worked tirelessly for the transformation of the company until he retired.
“He has significantly developed our heating business, including a plan for phasing out coal in Berlin and ensuring growth in the area of our heating solutions.
“I am very grateful for the commitment with which Tuomo has worked to ensure that Vattenfall remains one of the leading European heat suppliers and becomes more and more sustainable.”
Borg added: “I am delighted about Christian’s further appointment and I am very proud to be able to significantly shape Vattenfall’s path together with him.
“Christian will also be a key driver for our business in Germany and will ensure this together with all areas that we achieve our goal of enabling a fossil-free life within one generation.”
