Annemie Vermeylen, Belgian Offshore Platform’s secretary-general, is leaving the association to join the country’s government.
Vermeylen will join the Cabinet of the Federal Minister of Energy as the cabinet’s deputy head from Monday 2 November 2020.
Vermeylen said she intends to use her expertise, experience and network to help steer Belgium’s sustainable energy transition.
Her successor will be appointed by mid-December. In the meantime, Hugo Caniere will act as secretary-general.
Vermeylen, a lawyer specialising in international maritime law and renewable energy, was asked to lead the Belgian Offshore Platform when it was set up in 2011, due to her experience in offshore wind.
The chairman, the directors and the association’s team said they would like to thank Annemie for her “very professional and outstanding commitment”.
The Belgian Offshore Platform is a non-profit association of investors and owners of wind farms in the Belgian part of the North Sea.
