An Oregon utility plans to add an average of 175MW of new renewable resources to help meet state law requiring 20% renewables by 2020.
Portland General Electric Company (PGE) has filed its 2016 Integrated Resource Plan with the Oregon Public Utility Commission (PUC).
PGE also plans to increase energy efficiency measures and add new demand response resources and flexible dispatchable resources.
The utility also seeks to take advantage of tax credits and favorable market conditions to begin acquiring resources needed to meet the next step, 27% by 2025, at a lower anticipated cost to customers.
The commission has up to six months to review the plan and provide comments and recommendations to the PUC.
If approved, PGE will work with the commission to develop competitive bidding processes to select new resources.
Bids could include renewables, hydroelectric power, flexible natural gas generation, geothermal power, energy storage and/or power supply contracts.
Under the 2016 Oregon Clean Electricity Plan, PGE expects to serve 50% of customer demand for electricity from renewable resources by 2040 and eliminate coal from its energy mix by 2035.
