Protium has launched a consultation regarding a green hydrogen project in Monmouthshire, south Wales located at Budweiser Brewing Group UK & Ireland’s Magor Brewery site.
Protium is seeking planning permission for a green hydrogen plant with a 17.5MW capacity.
Energy generated from local renewables and green hydrogen will be used to decarbonise various elements of the brewing process, whilst additionally providing the means to fuel the Brewery’s Heavy Goods Vehicles (HGVs) and forklift trucks.
The project will generate over 10MW of electricity, which means that it is deemed a Development of National Significance (DNS).
Therefore, the application will be submitted to the Planning and Environment Decisions Wales (PEDW) for consideration, before a recommendation is made to Welsh Ministers on whether planning permission should be granted.
From the beginning of September 2022 until 7 October 2022, Protium is undertaking an informal consultation prior to a second, statutory consultation which will take place in winter/spring 2023.
