RWE explored a combination with Danish offshore wind project developer Orsted but a potential tie-up was rebuffed by the Danish government, according to reports.
Manager Magazin reported the Danish government, Orsted’s main owner with a 50.1% stake, told RWE in late 2023 it did not see such a combination as particularly favourable.

Shares in Orsted and RWE, the world’s two biggest offshore wind project developers, were down 2.2% and 4.0%, respectively following the report.
The two companies declined to provide a comment to reNEWS in relation to a proposed tie-up.
RWE did say it was “really happy” with its offshore portfolio and has increased its investment planning accordingly and that its project pipeline is already “well filled”.
