ScottishPower has launched a five-year £12bn programme to upgrade the electricity grid across central and southern Scotland.
SP Energy Networks said the investment will deliver 12 new substations and upgrade or replace more than 570km of transmission lines.
The company added the programme will create 1400 direct jobs and support more than 11,000 roles across the supply chain.
The upgrades are intended to increase grid capacity, strengthen energy security and support electrification of homes and businesses.
Kirby Group Engineering is among suppliers to benefit, securing a place on a framework worth up to £5.4bn over 10 years alongside 18 other companies.
Nicola Connelly, chief executive officer at SP Energy Networks, said: “The next five years are pivotal to achieving Britain’s clean power ambitions.
“Our electricity networks are the backbone of the country’s electricity system, getting the power from where it’s generated to homes and businesses across the country.”
