Shell has awarded three low-carbon businesses £40,000 each to scale up their innovations for the national final of its Springboard programme.
Euan Hogg of Water Engine Technologies, developed a technology that harnesses the benefits of low head hydro power. Christopher Rayner of C-Capture, who developed new technology for separation of CO2 from gas streams to reduce emissions and David Coulson of Innova who are proposing to commercialize the previously tested and proven FlettnerFlow will go head-to-head against other regional winners on March 23.
The national final offers a first prize of £110,000 out of a total pot pf £150,000 to the winning SME with the most innovative and commercially viable idea that helps to reduce carbon emissions.
Shell UK chairman Erik Bonino said: “We’re proud that Shell Springboard supports businesses like of Water Engine Technologies, C-Capture and Innova who are truly at the leading-edge of the low-carbon economy. The big ideas coming out of these small companies are not only helping to create a lower carbon, higher energy future – they are creating a new wave of jobs and economic growth in the UK.”
