The Scottish National Party has promised to fight for onshore wind’s inclusion in the UK industrial strategy alongside an “increased focus” on offshore wind and wave and tidal energy.
SNP leader Nicola Sturgeon launched the party’s manifesto today promising to push the case for renewables across all sectors at Westminster.
The manifesto said the industry had been “undermined by the UK government’s ideologically-driven cuts to support for renewables”.
“SNP MPs will work to ensure low cost green energy schemes get the long-term certainty needed to support further development and reductions in cost,” said the party.
Support extends to islands renewables, include a fixed timetable for delivery of interconnectors, and to storage technologies such as pumped hydro and batteries.
The manifesto promises support for carbon capture and storage as well as an overhaul of transmission charging.
The SNP also promised to “urge the UK government to provide incentives for oil and gas companies diversifying into renewables”.
