Statkraft is to supply electricity from wind and solar projects to industrial companies in Spain and Portgual through an agreement with Spanish energy sourcing platform Fortia Energia.
Under the terms of the deal, the Norwegian energy company will deliver about 3000 gigawatt-hours of electricity to Fortia for companies in the steel, cement, metallurgy, chemical, paper and industrial gases sectors in Iberia.
The mainly under development projects are part of Statkraft’s Spanish portfolio, the company said.
Fortia managing director Juan Temboury said: “With the signing of this agreement, Fortia contributes to the development of renewable energy projects, while ensuring long-term supply for the energy intensive industry at competitive and predictable prices.
“We very much look forward to taking that next step in the energy transition together with our customers.”
Statkraft executive vice-president markets and IT Hallvard Granheim said: “This contract underlines our leading position in the European PPA market and our commitment to powering major industrial companies across Europe with renewable energy.”
Fortia is the largest independent supplier in the Iberian electricity market with average sales of 11 terrawatt-hours a year.
