Renewables have helped the energy and natural resources team at Scottish law firm Harper Macleod complete deals worth over £300m in the last six months.
A Harper Macleod team led by senior partner David Bone acted for The Renewables Infrastructure Group on the latter’s £82m acquisition of the Solwaybank wind farm in Dumfries & Galloway. Solwaybank is expected to become operational in early 2020.
Bone also led a team advising Fred Olsen Renewables on the sale of a stake in two operational wind farms to Aviva Investors for £117m and then on a secured facility agreement with banks for the projects.
Fred Olsen Renewables was also advised on the acquisition of Brockloch 1 wind farm, while Natural Power was assisted on the provision of management services for the Withernwick wind farm extension in the East Riding of Yorkshire.
In April, Harper Macleod represented Aberdeen Standard Investments on the provision of £43m private debt to finance six operational hydro schemes in the Scottish Highlands.
Bone said: “While development work in renewables is slower while the industry grapples with the financing of subsidy free projects, the secondary market has been booming as funds see the benefit of acquiring green investments and better understand the mature market that renewables has now become.
“Lenders have also been active as clients look to refinance projects and we are fortunate in the quality of the work we have received and that which is ongoing.”
Also part of the Harper Macleod team were Omar Ali, Peter Ferguson, David Steel, Lewis Hendry, Roslyn MacDonald and Tony Cameron.
