UK logistics company Stobart Group has secured long-term contracts to supply more than 2m tonnes of biomass fuel a year by 2018.
Stobart said six major biomass plants are scheduled to come online in the next 18 months to which it will supply both waste and virgin wood fuel.
The company added that it is securing strategic sites for waste wood processing and is in the process of sourcing additional plant and equipment required to move this forward.
Stobart said that its biomass supply business had improved its margin per tonne in the last 12 months, despite a “backdrop of downtime due to unplanned maintenance at UK plants and the delays at Calais which caused increased transport costs”.
