Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) has called on global developers to submit proposals to develop 200MW of renewable energy to be brought online by 2023.
The utility provider has requested proposals to be entered by 24 April and will announce the winning proposals by the end of the year.
Developers can review TVA’s request for proposal and submit bids here.
TVA said the amount of power contracted will align to customers’ demand for renewable energy. The authority currently generates around 60% of its energy from carbon-free sources.
TVA procured more than 1300MW on behalf of customers through similar requests for proposals in 2018 and 2019.
Large-scale solar costs 80% less than private-scale solar and delivers the best value for renewable energy across the authority’s seven-state service territory, according to TVA.
TVA said in a statement: “We do not have a need for more base-load energy, the utility is investing in renewables in response to customer demand for cleaner energy and economic development opportunities to attract companies with sustainability goals.”
TVA is a corporate agency of the US that provides electricity for business customers and local power companies serving 10 million people. It receives no taxpayer funding, deriving virtually all of its revenues from sales of electricity.
