TotalEnergies has signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) with Saint-Gobain to supply the glass company with clean electricity for its French factories.
The contract will take effect in January 2026, for a total volume of 875GWh over five years.
TotalEnergies will supply Saint-Gobain with a continuous and constant volume of electricity over the delivery period (baseload), associated with certificates of origin in equivalent quantities, related to the production of TotalEnergies’ wind and solar farms located in the Grand Est, Hauts-de-France, Occitanie, and Pays de la Loire regions.
This renewable electricity supply contract between the two companies is in addition to a previous deal, signed in June 2023, for the sale to Saint-Gobain of biomethane produced by TotalEnergies from its BioBearn site.
“We are delighted with this new agreement with Saint-Gobain, which demonstrates our shared commitment to decarbonising industry in France,” said senior vice president, flexible power & iIntegration at TotalEnergies Sophie Chevalier.
She added: “It also demonstrates our ability to offer electricity solutions in line with our customers’ needs, while ensuring the origin of the green electricity supplied.
“In France, TotalEnergies has a renewable fleet of more than 2GW, which avoids the emission of 800,000 tons of CO2 each year: for our industrial customers, this is a strong argument!”
Saint-Gobain energy purchasing director Swaroop Srinath said: “Saint-Gobain is committed to achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2050.
“Achieving this ambition requires the decarbonization of our production processes. This contract signed with TotalEnergies allows the group to take a further step towards this goal with a reliable and continuous supply of renewable electricity for our industrial sites.
“With this PPA, combined with the others signed by the group in France, 30% of the electricity in France will come from renewable sources by 2027.”
This power purchase agreement with Saint-Gobain is in addition to the contracts already signed with Air Liquide, Amazon, LyondellBasell, Merck, Microsoft, Orange and Sasol.
