The snap UK general election called by Prime Minister Theresa May today will not affect the planned assessment of the country’s second Contracts for Difference auction.
BEIS confirmed the 8 June poll would not impact the £290m auction process.
“As CfD statutory notices are now law and the auction has already begun, there will be no change to the scheduled CfD2 timings,” it said.
The application window for the auction opened on 3 April and will close on 21 April.
Officials will notify applicants of the outcome of the application window on 15 May.
In the event there are no ineligible applications for the initial Pot 2 auction, CfD2 sealed bids will be due from 25 May until 1 June.
Following the closing of the sealed bid window, the earliest date successful CfD bidders will be notified by National Grid is 22 June, the latest is 11 September.
RenewableUK executive director Emma Pinchbeck said the election offered a “massive opportunity” for an incoming government to “reap the benefits of the renewable energy transition”.
“Political parties should support a vibrant renewable energy sector if they want to be successful in government. Renewable energy is massively popular with voters – three-quarters of the public support renewables,” she added.
“Renewable energy is a sector in which Britain can lead, and that should be recognised in the general election campaign”.
