Vestas and labour union IG Metall have agreed to enter into talks following strikes at the German turbine manufacturer’s Hamburg headquarters. In response, IG Metall is to suspend its strikes.
“The current economic situation is a big challenge for our entire industry, and we still believe that a solution is possible even without a collective agreement,” said Nils de Baar, managing director of Vestas Deutschland GmbH.
“The strike situation has become a burden for many of our employees and we can no longer accept that our workforce gets more divided. That is why we have decided to work with IG Metall to find a solution.”
Daniel Friedrich, district manager of IG Metall Küste, sees in the talks as “a chance to put together a collective bargaining package that benefits the interests of the workers and Vestas as an employer.”
The first meeting is scheduled for 13 March in Hamburg.
