Atlantis Resources has agreed terms with the Duchy of Lancaster for a long-term riverbed lease option to build a 160MW tidal barrage near Fleetwood with co-developer Natural Energy Wyre.
The Edinburgh outfit said it will start the process of obtaining all necessary consents to begin development, which will take approximately three years. Tenders for the project between Fleetwood and Knott End are expected to be issued early next year.
Atlantis has meanwhile kicked off discussions with potential development-stage investors.
“This is the pathfinder project the UK government is looking for, with the potential to facilitate wide-scale development of the UK’s enviable tidal range resources,” said chief executive Tim Cornelius.
“We look forward to working with the Duchy of Lancaster, our partners, investors and supply chain to bring this major infrastructure project to fruition.”
