Scottish tidal developer Atlantis Resources has appointed former Mainstream Renewable Power chief operating officer Cameron Smith as director of project development.
The new appointee will have responsibility for the development of the entire Atlantis portfolio including the next phase of MeyGen, the Sound of Islay project and Atlantis’ interests in Canada and Asia.
Smith will also be responsible for looking for new project development opportunities with a global remit.
Smith has joined Atlantis’ new executive management group based at its corporate headquarters in Edinburgh and will report directly to chief executive Tim Cornelius
At Mainstream, Smith had full commercial responsibility for the safe and efficient operation of its offshore business.
Smith moved to Mainstream Renewable Power from Airtricity, where he held the role of development manager, and is currently on the board of trade body Scottish Renewables.
Cornelius said: “Cameron is a well-respected, high profile industry figurehead and a quality individual. He has a history of successful project development and an unrivalled pedigree of operational experience, insight and knowledge of the renewable energy and power generation sectors in the UK.”
He added: “Cameron will be a huge asset at a truly exciting juncture in Atlantis’ development.”
