The US patent office has issued an approval to Finnish wave developer AW Energy’s patent application covering its WaveRoller technology.
The patent provides AW Energy with broad IP protection of its latest generation device including failsafe operating improvements to protect against extreme weather conditions.
“This is a significant and exciting decision by the US Patent and Trademark Office and we view this announcement as recognition of AW Energy’s important contribution to the growing number of renewable energy devices that are needed globally to reduce the climate change challenges we face,” said chief technology officer Jussi Akerberg.
The latest patent added to a portfolio of 57 patents secured by AW Energy covering different technological aspects and different countries.
“We now have a very good protection regarding our WaveRoller device and its technology on significant markets around the world,” added Akerberg.
The developer is preparing to install a 350kW WaveRoller device next month off Peniche in Portugal.
