Australian wave power company Carnegie Clean Energy is working on four projects aimed at advancing the blue economy in Australia.
The four projects cover offshore/high energy sustainable hybrid power systems, operational modelling for offshore aquaculture and energy, blue economy biofouling challenges and possible solutions, and integrating blue economy governance integrity research.
The short-term scoping projects have been awarded funding by the Blue Economy Cooperative Research Centre (BECRC).
BECRC is coordinating an over A$300m (€183m) programme to advance Australia’s blue economy in the areas of seafood production, marine renewable energy and offshore engineering.
Carnegie said the projects involve collaboration over the next six months between industry and academia and will serve to guide the BECRC’s future work programme and funding allocations.
“Over the next six months, Carnegie’s team will contribute expertise to the projects through a modest amount of staff time which will help guide the direction of future BECRC research,” the company said.
Carnegie added that it has no obligation to pay BECRC for the projects and will not be paid for its work.
“Carnegie expects the research outcomes from these projects to deliver increased knowledge in relation to integration of wave energy in the blue economy,” it added.
