A delegation of Chinese government and industry officials from Zhoushan are meeting with representatives from local government, industry and academia in Bristol and the south-west UK to explore opportunities for marine renewable energy.
The Zhoushan archipelago in China’s Zhejiang province is one of the country’s prime opportunities for the development of marine renewable energy.
The area has as much as 2GW of extractable tidal stream energy, strong academic engagement through Zhejiang University and a national designation as China’s pilot marine energy test bed.
An industry led partnership is developing in response to the opportunities including. Atlantis Resource, IT Power and Zhejiang Golden Eagle Marine Energy Company.
A part of the Bristol 2015 Marine Energy Accelerator Programme saw Ian Godfrey from Regen SW visited Zhoushan in March 2015, joining an IT Power-run workshop to discuss regional and national activity in tidal energy in China and the UK.
The UK delegation will also meet with the academic Partnership for Marine in Marine Renewable Energy to discuss areas for collaboration, export opportunities and best practice in the development of marine renewable energy.
The group will also join the Regen SW’s ninth Bristol Tidal Energy Forum event at Burges Salmon’s offices in Bristol on 27 October.
