French developer Eel Energy has raised €3m for the development of a 1MW tidal prototype.
The turbine will feature an undulating membrane tidal concept.
The company said it has been testing the membrane on smaller machines for several years.
“We were attracted by the simplicity and performance of this fully unique technology. This fits with the philosophy of our company,” said François Frisquet, chief executive officer of water boiler fabricant Frisquet that bought a stake in Eel Energy.
