Atlantis Resources has deployed the first turbine foundation for its landmark MeyGen Phase 1A tidal array in the Pentland Firth.
Geosea jack-up Neptune installed the foundation in the early hours of 7 October off the island of Stroma.
The foundation is a three-legged support structure with six blocks of 200-tonne ballast or two blocks per turbine leg.
The installation of MeyGen Phase 1A is being supported by James Fisher Marine Services, a specialist in dynamic positioning vessel operations in high tidal flow conditions.
James Fisher has hired the Aker Wayfarer construction vessel for the installation of three of MeyGen Phase 1A’s four turbines.
The Aker Wayfarer has arrived at Atlantis’ facility at Nigg Energy Park to kick off turbine mobilisation.
James Fisher is set to install the first of three Andritz Hydro HS1000 turbines to be deployed off the island of Stroma in the coming days.
The 1.5MW unit will be fully operational following completion of a six-week commissioning phase.
The 6MW MeyGen Phase 1A will also feature an AR1500 1.5MW turbine designed by Atlantis and Lockheed Martin.
