Green Marine has installed the first of three 1MW Penguin wave devices for Wello at Orkney’s European Marine Energy Centre (EMEC).
The Stromness marine services outfit said it completed the installation of the Finnish developer’s Penguin device on its mooring system on 5 March.
The wave converter was deployed at EMEC’s Billia Croo grid-connected site located about 2km off Stromness.
The €24.7m Clean Energy from Ocean Waves demonstration project is supported by a grant from the EU’s Horizon 2020 R&D programme.
Wello plans to install a second 1MW Penguin device in 2018 at EMEC and a third a year later.
