James Fisher has secured a five-year deal to provide operations and maintenance services to Atlantis Resources’ pioneering MeyGen array off Caithness in the north of Scotland.
The English company said the contract for the 6MW phase 1A was secured on a preferred basis and will feature specialised tidal energy vessel HF4. Hardware will be provided by Andritz and Atlantis.
MeyGen project director David Taaffe said: “James Fisher has been involved with us in the development of this significant tidal energy project since the start and was the obvious partner for MeyGen’s O&M services. The expertise it has demonstrated in challenging marine and subsea operations gives us complete confidence in the ongoing success of this exciting project.”
James Fisher said the use of the HF4 vessel for O&M will contribute to reductions in the operational expenditure of the project “as it is more cost effective than non-specialised construction vessels”.
