Tidal Lagoon Power is to retender the marine works package for its proposed 320MW Swansea Bay project with China Harbour Engineering Company losing out on a £300m contract.
The Gloucester developer said it had taken the decision to retender the marine works in line with the requirement to deliver optimal value-for-money to investors and to consumers.
Last June, TLP selected CHEC as preferred bidder for the contract that includes construction of the project’s 9.6km-long seawall.
The marine works package also comprises the construction of the lagoon’s temporary cofferdam in which the powerhouse structure will be built.
A spokesman for TLP said: “We thank China Harbour Engineering Company for its contribution in helping to prepare a world-first energy project for delivery.”
TLP has meanwhile named Mike Unsworth as director of engineering and construction, replacing Andrew McNaughton.
Unsworth was appointed delivery director for the Swansea Bay project last year.
