Leask Marine is set to kick off installation on 4 March of a tidal device at Orkney’s European Marine Energy Centre on behalf of Dutch developer Tocardo.
The TFS device was fabricated by Damen and previously installed in 2015 off the Dutch island of Texel.
Tocardo will use the TFS device featuring a T2 turbine for preliminary testing ahead of deployment of a 1.5MW Universal Foundation System (UFS) device by early next year.
The semi-submersible UFS platform will feature five 300kW T2 turbines.
Both the TFS and UFS devices will be installed at EMEC’s grid-connected Fall of Warness site.
Leask Marine will use its C-Odyssey and Uskmoor vessels for the marine works, including survey and cable operations, device mooring installation and the installation and commissioning of Bluetec.
Completion is set for 31 March. The device will be moored temporarily at Isbister bay until it is ready for installation.
