Ireland’s Marine Institute is hosting a third public information meeting on 21 July as part of the consultation on plans to upgrade the Galway Bay Marine and Renewable Energy test site.
The meeting will be held at the Connemara Coast Hotel at Furbo in Galway, starting at 7.30pm.
The Marine Institute and the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland will provide information on the background to the lease application and the scope of the proposed upgrade.
The two organisations will also address questions raised by the public ahead of the 2 August deadline for submissions.
The Marine Institute has applied to the Department of the Environment, Community and Local Government for a foreshore lease at the site, which since 2006 has tested marine energy and other novel technologies in an ocean environment.
The lease application outlines plans to upgrade the existing infrastructure and facilitate the deployment of a wider range of marine renewable energy devices and novel sensor technologies at the test site.
A copy of the application – including relevant maps, plans, reports and drawings – can be found on the Department of the Environment, Community and Local Government’s website.
Copies of the documents are also available for viewing until 2 August at the Salthill Garda Station, the An Spidéal Public Library and Comhlacht Forbartha An Spidéal Teo in Galway.
