Filipino outfit PNOC Renewables Corp has joined forces with French developer Sabella and local company H&WB to develop a tidal test farm in the strait of Bernardino in the Philippines.
The partners plan to install between three and five 1MW Sabella tidal turbines. The agreement between Sabella and H&WB to develop the test farm was first revealed in the subscriber-only newsletter reNEWS in November last year.
Bathymetric studies have been recently wrapped up and a 3D modelling campaign to determine the exact location of the test site will kick off shortly, the companies said.
France’s engineering consultancy Energie de la Lune is also participating in the project.
The partners aim to set up a project development company in the first quarter of this year and start construction next year.
Sabella, H&WB, and PNOC RC have a total of three concessions in the strait of Bernardino and plan to develop commercial tidal farms in the country.
