Seabased’s 1MW Sotenas wave array on the Swedish northwest coast is delivering power to the Nordic grid following the connection of buoys to the project’s wave energy converters.
The Swedish company said the connection of the six metre diameter buoys to the corresponding linear generator wave energy converters on the seabed represents the final step in bringing each unit on line.
Seabased’s array, developed with Fortum and Swedish Energy Agency, comprises 36 Seabased’s wave energy converters of 30kW.
Seabased chief executive Mats Leijon said: “This is a very significant achievement. We are very happy to have come this far and I wish to thank Fortum and the Swedish Energy Agency for their confidence and support all throughout this, sometimes tough, journey.”
The company was forced to replace the array’s export cable after suffering repeated faults during high voltage testing last summer. The project was connected to the Swedish grid last month.
