The UK government’s £1.3bn Swansea City Deal signed today is to pave the way for the creation of a £76m Pembroke Dock Marine centre in west Wales.
The total investment package comprises £241m of UK and Welsh government funding, £396m of other public sector money and £637m from the private sector.
Earmarked for support is the Port of Milford Haven-led Pembroke Dock Marine, which to be a centre for marine energy development, fabrication, testing and deployment in the town’s naval dockyard.
The site will allow developers to test, manufacture and maintain offshore renewable energy devices supported by the Marine Energy Test Area (META).
The META will feature a series of areas along the waterway where developers can test devices at an early stage of development.
Pembroke Dock Marine will also be supported with the development of Wave Hub’s proposed Pembrokeshire Wave Energy Demonstration Zone and the creation of the Marine Energy Engineering Centre of Excellence to share resources between developers.
The Port of Milford Haven has partnered with Marine Energy Wales, ORE Catapult and Wave Hub and is working alongside Swansea University and Pembrokeshire College.
