Finnish wave developer AW Energy’s WaveRoller device has met distribution grid compliance criteria as part of six months of testing.
The developer said its WaveRoller device, soon be deployed off the coast of Peniche in Portugal, now meets the strictest utility criteria worldwide.
AW Energy also said the power take-off system of its 350kW device passed a six-month inspection following the tests activity at its centre in Jarvenpaa, Finland.
The developer is following a certified technology qualification program and said this scheduled maintenance period was an important opportunity to disassemble and inspect components and assess their performance during the rigorous testing cycles.
“We’ve reached an important milestone in demonstrating our PTO technology and the team is looking forward to commence the final preparations to finish the PTO for the first of a kind deployment,” said AW Energy chief engineer Sami Pasanen.
“We now ensure that all parts work seamlessly together and fine-tune the control algorithm to meet the demands for operation in ocean conditions,” he added.
