Wello’s Penguin wave energy device has started to generate electricity to the local grid in the Basque Country, Spain.
The project was supported by the Italian engineering company Saipem, which was responsible for the towing and deployment of the wave energy converter.

The Biscay Marine Energy Platform also facilitated the deployment of the device at its test site.
Wello had already deployed its original Penguin WEC-1, a full-scale prototype back in 2012 in Orkney, Scotland.
Over the next two years Wello said that the Basque-deployed Penguin will undergo testing and verification to further prove the robustness of the device as it strives towards new initiatives in wave energy generation.
