The Welsh Green Party has launched a petition to stop UKIP from chairing the Welsh Assembly committee for climate change, environment and rural affairs.
The petition comes after the party called the election of UKIP AM Mark Reckless to the chairmanship as “absolutely ridiculous”.
Wales Green Party leader Alice Hooker-Stroud said: “It makes a complete mockery of Welsh politics and I am ashamed to be governed by a group that could make this decision.”
The former climate-scientist added UKIP AM’s do not believe that climate change is being caused by humans and have pledged to axe the £73m budget ring-fenced to fight climate change in Wales.
“It is clear that climate change is so low on the Welsh Assembly’s list of priorities that they are willing for the committee to be chaired by someone who denies the very nature of the problem they will be presiding over.
“This would be laughable, if it wasn’t so reckless.”
