UK gas and electricity supplier Bristol Energy is providing Bristol Zoo with 100% renewable energy.
The company is delivering gas and 100% renewable electricity to all of the animal exhibits at Bristol Zoo Gardens, which includes Twilight World, The Reptile House, Bug World, Monkey Jungle and Gorilla Island.
Bristol Energy will also supply the Zoo’s sister attraction Wild Place Project, in South Gloucestershire, which is home to gelada baboons, European brown bears, giraffes, zebras and cheetahs.
Bristol Zoological Society sustainability and projects co-ordinator Elinor Kershaw said: “We pleased to be working with an energy company committed to working in the region towards sustainable energy – supporting reduction in local and regional consumption, as well as working to make renewable energy available as a standard rather than premium product.”
The two organisations are planning on working closely together to help fulfil the Society’s green aspirations by looking at potential innovative energy solutions in the future to reduce carbon emissions further.
Bristol Energy managing director Marek Majewicz said: “We’re excited to be working with another iconic Bristol organisation that is committed to helping Bristol become a cleaner, greener, healthier city.
“Switching to renewables is the easiest and most simple way of doing your bit.
“We’re looking forward to seeing how our organisations can collaborate to drive new approaches to sustainability in our city.”
