Iberian clean power company EDP Renewables is toasting 10 years of activity in Poland that has seen 418MW of wind capacity installed in the eastern European country.
The company’s first project in Poland was the 120MW Margonin wind farm in Wielkopolska province. Sixty-turbine Margonin remains EDPR’s largest facility in the country.
EDPR also operates the Pawlowo wind farm in Wielkopolska, the Korsze plant in Warmia, the Masuria and Ilza facilities in Masovia, Radziejow in Kuyavian-Pomeranian and Tomaszw plus Poturzyn wind farm in Lublin.
EDPR said its investment in Margonin served as a platform for further expansion across Europe and elsewhere, with the company now having a presence in 13 countries on the Contintent, North America and South America.
EDPR managing director Joao Manso Neto said: “When 10 years ago we entered the Polish market, we believed that renewable energy made great sense in Poland.
“The country’s electrical grid relied too much on conventional energies in the absence of alternative natural sources. Therefore, there were long-term prospects for wind energy.”
