Energia helps boost Irish engineering scheme

Energia Group is taking part in Engineers Ireland’s STEPs Engineers Week again this year.

The week is a celebration of the world of engineering in Ireland which runs from 4-10 March.

As a developer and operator of renewable energy across the island of Ireland Energia said it is proud to profile Eoin McPartland, Offshore Manager, and Caroline Roche, Offshore Environmental & Consents Manager.

Both play leading roles in the development and delivery of Energia’s offshore portfolio, vital in helping Ireland achieve its climate action targets.

McPartland is working on Energia’s North Celtic Sea project located off the coast of Waterford and the South Irish Sea project located off the coast of Wexford and Wicklow.

These projects are among the most advanced of their kind in the country and could provide up to 1600MW of renewable offshore wind power.

He said: “My focus on renewables is centred around being able to effect positive climate action and to bring about large-scale projects that can have a significant impact in decarbonising the energy system and progressing SDG 13 Climate Action.

“Working on offshore also provides a great opportunity to help enhance the local area from a socio-economic perspective and in terms of biodiversity regeneration.”

Encouraging young people to think about a career in the offshore industry, McPartland added: “It is a really exciting time to be working in the energy sector as an engineer, helping to design and develop solutions to one of the greatest challenges of our time, the climate crisis.”

Speaking about her role on the offshore team Roche (pictured) said: “My role is really exciting and no two days are the same.

“I lead on the environmental elements of our offshore wind projects including foreshore license applications, planning applications, Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs) and public consultations.

“I am incredibly fortunate to work with a team of experts on projects that will help to deliver on Ireland’s climate action targets by decarbonising our energy supply.”

STEPS Engineers Week, run by the Engineers Ireland STEPS programme, gives children the opportunity to discover engineering, facilitated by their teachers, parents and local community.
