The German wind industry is enjoying a renewed sense of optimism about prospects for future development, according to new research.
A WindEnergy trend:index (WEtix) survey of 1,100 market players carried out between March and April this year revealed views of both the onshore and offshore wind industry that are more positive compared to those measured last November.
“From the perspective of many market participants, things cannot possibly get any worse than they were in 2019,” said president of German wind association PWE Hermann Albers.
“But the fact that the general outlook remains below the zero line shows that hopes in the current federal government are subdued. The current coalition government could still surprise the industry with some positive measures,” he added.
Participants responded to questions during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and still took a more positive view of the market, driven in part by the perceived potential opportunities offered by new hydrogen and digitisation, WEtix said.
“The wind industry can play a significant role in supporting the post-COVID-19 relaunch of the economy while lending credibility to the Chancellor’s ambitious climate protection goals,” Albers added.
The global WEtix survey has been gauging the mood in the wind industry every six months since 2018.
