Marine energy solutions company James Fisher has completed the world’s first abrasive cut on a 10-metre diameter offshore wind monopile.
The operation deployed a bespoke external abrasive cutting tool, which was designed, built and tested in the UK.
The tool was developed to meet the growing demand for safe, cost-effective offshore wind maintenance and decommissioning solutions.
James Fisher said the abrasive water jet system severed the full diameter of the monopile in a single, precision-controlled cut, enabling safe recovery to the deck of the vessel.
The company believes the tool provides a safe and efficient solution for the decommissioning of offshore wind turbines, while minimising disruption to the surrounding marine environment.
