Labour Shadow Chancellor visits ScottishPower O&M Base

Labour Shadow Chancellor Rachel Reeves was hosted by ScottishPower Renewables at its Lowestoft offshore wind operations and maintenance base.

Reeves toured the facility with the operations team, chatted to apprentices starting out in their career in renewables and met the construction team working on East Anglia THREE.

Together with East Anglia ONE, the two wind farms represent green investment of around £5 billion – supporting thousands of jobs across the supply chain and helping deliver the clean transition away from oil and gas.

Two more wind farms and further investment will follow as part of the East Anglia Hub.

Steve Hodger, Principal Operations Manager at ScottishPower Renewables’ East Anglia ONE offshore wind farm said: “East Anglia is the beating heart of our offshore wind operations in the UK. Our multi-billion investment in the region is not only powering people’s lives with low-cost green electricity – it’s supported thousands of jobs, created supply chain growth and boosted the local economy.

“And there’s lots more to come, with another windfarm in construction and two others to follow. It was a pleasure to welcome the Shadow Chancellor to Lowestoft alongside ABP Ports and highlight what we’re doing to create a cleaner, greener and more prosperous future for the region and across the UK.”

Rachel Reeves, Labour’s Shadow Chancellor, said: “It’s really exciting to have visited ScottishPower today and see the work the team is doing with East Anglia ONE and into the future with East Anglia THREE – powering homes and, crucially, boosting our domestic energy security in Britain.

“It was also really inspiring to meet some of the young people working here – apprentices, graduate trainees – who are earning good wages and contributing to those important projects of lowering bills and boosting our energy security.

“I want to see more of that in Lowestoft and East Anglia and I’m excited about ScottishPower’s plans for the future.”
